2/9/2009 : Adult and Junior Karaoke Singing Competition Returns to O. C. Market Place

Costa Mesa, CA--- Maybe you missed the auditions for American Idol or you still haven’t got your nerve up. There’s still opportunity to vie for a spot in the limelight and a portion of more than $3,000 in cash awards and savings bonds. SongBurstÒ 2009, a karaoke-style competition presented by Karaoke Scene Magazine, returns to the Orange County Market Place, the weekend swap meet at the O. C. Fair and Event Center. Qualifying rounds begin this Saturday, February 14 at the Westside Stage. (Rain date is February 15)

There will be four qualifying rounds in two divisions: adults 18 years and over and juniors 17 years and under. In addition to this Saturday,- other rounds will be held Saturdays, February 21, 28, and March 7. Rain dates are corresponding Sundays or February 22, March 1 and 8. Finals are set for Saturday, March 21. Rain date for the finals is March 22.

Up to five finalists per division will be selected during each round. Pre-registration is not required, but there is a $5 entry fee due at sign up. Juniors sign in from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with singing beginning at 11 a.m. Adults sign up from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with singing beginning at 1 p.m. The grand prize winner in the adult division receives a $1,000 cash award and a trophy plaque. Second place receives $500; third place, $300; fourth place, $200 and fifth place, $100.

In the junior division, first place receives a $1,000 U.S. savings bond and trophy; second place, $500 savings bond and third place, $200 savings bond. All participants will receive certificates and each finalist will receive a medal.

The swap meet features nearly 1,000 vendors every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. offering a variety of products and services. Also included is an artisans’ and crafters’ section, fresh produce, hair salons, gourmet foods-to-go, used luxury car sales area, numerous food concessions and much more. Entertainment and special events are slated throughout the year.

General admission is $2. Children 12 and under are free. Free parking is available as well as preferred parking for $5.
