7/20/2009 : COSTA MESA, CA--When the Orange County Market Place, the weekend swap meet at the O. C. Fair & Event Center, reopens after the Orange County Fair it will kick off with a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the legendary Woodstock Music Festival on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, the actual dates of the 1969 New York event. In addition to the return of its regular swap meet activity, the Market Place will feature Woodstock tribute bands. On Saturday, August 15, Woodstock Mud, a four member San Diego area based band will perform classic music of the 1960’s and 1970’s including the songs of renown musicians who took the stage at Woodstock.On Sunday, August 16, the Summer of Love Show brings together six performers recreating the actual vibe, sound and feel of several rock legends from Woodstock including Janis Joplin, John Fogerty, Sly Stone, Jim Hendrix and Arlo Guthrie to name a few. Both days concerts will be held at noon and 2 p.m. on the Westside Stage and are free with $2 swap meet admission. Children 12 and under are free. Other activities will include free face painting, tie dye vendors, kid’s arts and crafts, Hippie stilt walker $1 hot dogs and sodas and more. The August calendar will also include a series of qualifying round Karaoke Contests tied in with Karaoke Fest 2009, the largest event of its kind at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona. Held during three weekends at the Market Place and presented by Karaoke Scene Magazine, crooners will vie for a spot at the Sept. 5 finals at the Fair. This includes the Crème’ de la Kids series for ages 17 and under on August 15, 22 and 29. Sign ups at 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and contest begins at 11 a.m. The Crème’ de la Crème’ rounds for adults 18 and over has qualifying rounds on August 15, 16, 22, 23 and 29. Sign ups 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contest at 1 p.m. Semi finals for the qualifiers will be on Sunday, August 30: Crème’ de la Kids at 11 a.m. and Crème’ de la Crème’ at 1 p.m. Registration is $5. The 10th Annual Elvis Festival returns Sunday, August 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is an all day tribute to Elvis Presley, the king of rock and roll. Featuring Elvis tribute artists, Jailhouse Rockers of California Elvis Presley Fan Club, stilt Elvis, Elvis therapy dog, A Hunk O’ Pink Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, Rock A Hula Hoop Contest, Crème de la King Elvis Karaoke Contest, other activities and strolling entertainment. Also added is the 1st Orange County Accordion Festival, ”The Big Squeeze” on Sunday, October 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Showcasing a variety of traditional and contemporary accordion music including Cajun, Zydeco, Russian folk, Polka, Tejano and other styles. Main stage acts feature prominent accordionists and include Raving Polka (aka Limpopo) performing Russian folk with a twist of jazz, blues, dance and comedy from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Grammy nominee for Best Zydeco/Cajun Music , Lisa Haley and the Zydekats take the stage from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Los Fabulocos with Kid Ramos will spice things up with a Tex-Mex blend of traditional stylings, as well as rhythm and blues and rockabilly music from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Other stages of accordion music from local and regional groups and soloists, demos, dance lessons, and educational presentations will be offered.
